Keeping spare copies of a few documents or project files is not difficult, but it is a different matter when it comes to backing up huge amounts of data, on multiple computers. IronSync Server provides you with the necessary tools for synchronizing folder pairs from a server, which can be accessed from any computer, over a local network. It allows you to create periodic or real time synchronization tasks, set up different triggers, define various rules and more.

IronSync Server can be used on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Win 7 and Win 8, as well as various Server editions. Its setup file is small and it takes less than a minute to install the software's components. You can specify custom control and access ports during the setup process, but it is optional.

IronSync Server works in the background as a service, so you can't run it like a traditional application, through an executable file. It provides a web-based user interface, which you can access on your preferred browser, by typing the server's host name or IP address. Once you log onto the web interface, you will find the necessary tools for setting up one or more synchronization jobs.

Synchronization commands are displayed in a list and you may click different buttons to create new commands, edit existing ones and so on. You can define periodic or real time synchronization tasks for files or folders. Specifying the source and destination paths is sufficient to create a synchronization task, but you can do more along the way. IronSync Server can be set to ignore directories, match files according to a series of rules and more.

Although it may take some time to get used to the way the web interface feels, its layout is quite simple and the options it displays are easy to understand. Everything can be done by selecting options in a few drop menus or by filling in a few input fields.

Pros

You can set up periodic or real time synchronization tasks for files or folders, define triggers and more. IronSync Server comes with a web-based interface, which can be accessed locally or from another computer, on the same network.

Cons

You may need some time to experiment when setting up rules. IronSync Server can back up or synchronize huge amounts of data on your computer, in real time, without prompting you for anything.
